What is Aleppo Soap?

Aleppo Soap, which also goes by savon d’Alep, laurel soap, Syrian soap, or ghar soap, has been around for hundreds and hundreds of years.

The origins of the soap are actually unknown, but legend has it that Aleppo Soap was used by Queen Cleopatra of Egypt and Queen Zenobia of Syria.

As its name suggests, it’s thought that the soap originated from the Levant region, and is made by the “hot process” of soap making where olive oil is brought to the boil along with water and lye. Laurel oil is also added and then the soap is poured out to cool and is cut into blocks.

The health benefits of using Aleppo Soap are myriad. It’s been shown to be antiseptic, soothing, emollient, moisturising, and hypoallergenic. It’s great for all skin types and perfect for babies.

It can relieve itching for people suffering from eczema, acne and psoriasis and will help hydrate the skin.

Here are No 29, we sell a whole range of Aleppo Soaps with differing quantities of olive oil content.
